The Full Impact of Being of Service
Krista Beavers

In business, we often put an emphasis - and rightly so - on serving our clients, customers, and patients. After all, customer service is important if you want to retain customers and grow your business.

And I don't know many people who don't want to do that. I know I do! So, if we can agree that customer service is important, consider this …

Just as customer service sustains your business, community service sustains your soul.

Now, don't get me wrong, Friend. There are a lot of reasons behind why you may choose to be of service to others. And there are many benefits you can receive from doing so.

But isn't it great that the self-less act of serving others also can be self-affirming and self-satisfying at the same time?

It's why I serve on so many boards and committees for causes and organizations whose work I believe in. And why I encourage you to get involved and give your support to what matters to you, too.

Don't sit back and assume that one person - you - can't make a difference. You certainly can!

You may not ever see the full extent of the ripple effect of your service, but know that it is there. Know, too, that your community service will have an impact on YOU in return! (And, seriously, don't we all love a good ROI?!!)

SUCCESS TIP OF THE MONTH

Fulfillment comes when we recognize the potential inside us all. So, look around at what needs attention, gather up some friends (and maybe family!), sign yourselves up – because no one should tackle life alone. And no matter how small or big, every act of service counts!

Being part of a community can be incredibly rewarding. Connecting with others around shared perspectives, interests and experiences gives us the opportunity to learn from each other as well as support one another in countless different ways.

You don't need a cape to be a superhero in your community!

Fulfillment comes when we recognize the potential inside us all. So, look around at what needs attention, gather up some friends (and maybe family!), sign yourselves up – because no one should tackle this alone.

And it doesn’t matter if you don’t have free time or patience, even small contributions will have a big effect: creating brighter futures and driving long lasting change that both benefits our communities while enriching us too!

No matter how small or big - every action counts!

By doing something, anything at all, you will not only be making measurable change but also gaining invaluable knowledge and skills along the way. When you lend your voice, expertise, and talents to something bigger than yourself - it not only improves lives but also helps define who you are as an individual.

I leave you with these words by President Carter:

“Helping others can be surprisingly easy, since there is so much that needs to be done. The hard part comes in choosing what to do and getting started, marking the first effort at something different. Once the initiative is taken, we often find that we can do things we never thought we could…

Involvement in promoting good for others has made a tremendous difference in our lives in recent years. There are serious needs everywhere for volunteers who want to help those who are hungry, homeless, blind, crippled, addicted to drugs or alcohol, illiterate, mentally ill, elderly, imprisoned, or just friendless and lonely…

There is clearly much left to be done, and whatever else we are going to do, we had better get on with it.”
