Resolutions, goals or words? What's guiding you in 2023?
Krista Beavers

Happy 2023, friend! As we begin another new year, we seem to be bombarded with messages about resolving to do things differently ... to be better than last year in some area of our lives.

In fact, did you know that “to exercise more” is one of the top U.S. New Year’s resolutions for 2023? With 52% of those responding to a recent Statista survey claiming it as their resolution (or one of them, because some people do have more than one), exercising more actually holds the top spot.

Others include to eat healthier, to lose weight, to save more money, to spend more time with family/friends, to spend less time on social media, and to reduce stress on the job. These all sound good, right? The problem with resolutions is that they often aren’t sustainable. It’s like going on a crash diet and losing weight only to gain it back when you go back to your habitual way of eating.

Resolutions can feel like short-term changes rather than lifestyle choices that become long-term habits.

If you’re someone who enjoys the tradition of making a New Year’s resolution, please don’t stop. I’m not trying to rain on your parade. But I do encourage you to turn your resolutions into habits that continue long-term.

For myself, instead of resolutions, I have lots of goals for 2023. And for the first time ever, I’ve chosen a word of the year to help ground and guide me... to keep me Focused.

My word for 2023 is proactive.

What are you focused on this year? Now that I’ve told you mine, I’d love to hear about your resolutions, goals, and/or word for 2023. What's guiding you to make this year one of your best?
